South Thailand is known for it’s white sandy beaches, jungles, temples, amazing street food and a strong cultural heritage and of course the island life. I was super exited to explore south Thailand.

Landed in Phuket airport, it was raining cats and dogs. Shared a taxi with some random travellers until the hostel in main city. I went ahead exploring the neighborhood. Although Phuket had lot to offer, it seemed overcrowded and very touristy.

Next day, decided to move to a smaller island. Walked along the main Street to find a cheap transportation and a moto guy agreed to take me to the ferry terminal. It was a good 45 mins ride through villages and beach side, before we reaching the jetty.

Taking a ferry on the emerald waters of Andaman Sea with the scenic limestone cliffs surrounded with jungles makes it an enjoyable experience travelling to Koh Phi Phi.

During the boat journey got lot of information regarding the dive sites from a dive instructor. Later went to their dive center to do some dives. After doing the formalities for dive, they suggested me to stay at the Rock hostel. Checked-in, I went around to explore the island and had my favourite thai green curry from a small eatery on the road side. Since it rained heavy, I went to the dive shop again spent few hours watching the dive videos, chit chatting with fellow divers.

A traveller whom i met, suggested me to go to the beach party if the rain stops. In the evening sat on the beach and enjoyed the view of limestone rocks and big waves hitting against them. Later in the evening spent time with some fellow travellers whom I met in Phuket, had dinner and strolling around the island rest of the evening.

Next morning woke up to the sounds of rain again 🙁 Walked out of the dorm, could see the rough sea and the dive as expected was called off. We had our breakfast and booked for snorkeling, Plankton watching and island hopping session in the afternoon. When we started everything looked fine, first stop was rock jumping.

By the time few did their jumps weather changed bad. The session got cancelled in between and we had to get back to the island in a hurry.

But something much better was installed for us. Met with some lovely people during this curtailed session. Rain was on and off , we went around walking along the beach for nearly couple of hours, talking about our travel experiences and about our lives back home.

Finally in the evening we ended up in a cafe on a roof top. Half of the backpackers on Phiphi were there as this was the only place which can give us some good time during rainy days.

Nearly 100 people all from different countries with authentic local thai food and beverages, watching the movie “The beach” on big screen, What more one could hope for. This has to be one of the best experiences while travelling. The movie was shot in near by islands and could feel it. Later that evening went about hopping places to eat and some muhathai and more games, what an evening that turned out to be.

We decided to go to Krabi next day and boat services resumed after couple of days gap due to bad weather. Reached Krabi and the hostel were we stayed was very unique it was facing the backwaters and view was amazing, each bed had an innovative name.

We got a two wheeler and drove around the island. Driving along the limestone structures was very refreshing. Stopped by some scenic places and clicked pictures.

Went to a Buddha temple and spoke to a monk there. He gave us some lessons to be recited and thought us basics of Buddhism. That was an unique experience.

We drove back to the Krabi city later that evening and went to the local market with some fellow travelers. Had plenty of street food like barbeque, curry puffs, desserts, etc.

And on the final day after traveling with some beautiful souls for the last few days and spending time together on different islands it was time to say good bye and move on. Although I didn’t explore much of the places but this trip was more about experiences of meeting people, going through some challenging time in an island life, lot of learning and definitely a trip to be remembered for a different reason.
