Situated in South Eastern Karnataka,  Biligirirangana wildlife Sanctuary (BR hills) is home to ecosystems that are unique to two mountain ranges. At an altitude of 3500 feet above sea level, BR hills stand where the Western Ghats meets the Eastern Ghats, and make for an ecological hotspot.

I have been to BR hills many a items. The forest ranges are very dense and gorgeous. During monsoon it’s a carpet of green cover.

Sri Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple is the famous temple of Lord Ranganatha situated on the highest peak of the Biligiriranga Hills. The temple is situated amidst natural beauty, you cannot miss this place. Historically it is said that Lord Rama had worshiped at this place on his way to find Sita.

Spotting any wildlife in BR Hills requires bit of luck. Although I have seen elephants quite a few times along with Gaur, Deers, Boar, etc But haven’t been lucky enough to see any carnivorous animals. Since it’s extremely dense you need both luck and patience in order to sight the wildlife. But one thing is you will definitely fall in love with the wild.

The Soliga tribes are native to BR hills. You could see them perform their cultural dance during festivals and sometimes in the evenings on request.

It is believed that Lord Ranganatha fell in love with a Soliga girl and married her, he still roams the forests during the night and a pair of leather slippers are also given as offering to him in the temple every couple of years once.

You can walk around their settlements. In case you wish to have some fresh honey and fruits then can request them. We got honey and fruits from them.

For Safaris one needs to reach K Gudi. Drive from BR hills will take you through dense forest for about half an hour, even to reach the safari point. Some lucky chaps who haven’t seen any during the actual safari end up seeing the big cats and elephants on their way back to BR hills from K Gudi.

Also be aware that BR hills is a small village and you will not have any fancy restaurants or even petrol pumps there. But there are a lot of small shops which sell petrol and diesel in bottles.

If you are looking for a quit getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, experience some core wildlife activity then this should be your go to place.
