We started from Moni towards Ende which is about two hours drive via the Trans Floras highway. This is one of the most scenic routes you get to drive while in South East Asia.
Ende is a port town with black sand beaches. The main attraction in Ende is undoubtedly its spectacular scenery, often referred to as the most beautiful in all of Flores.
Before reaching Ende, we enjoyed a nice stroll around some villages on the way. You see a lot of rice terraces and some cafes overlooking them. Contrary to Bali, it’s not crowded and it’s definitely more beautiful with lot more things to explore.
Soon after we entered Ende, visited the market in Wolowona. It’s a nice way to experience the local culture and learn about them. Visited Marilonga Park, Mari Longa is a hero of Ende who fought against colonialism. Dutch had some serious struggles when Mari Longa was around.
Black sand beaches with the back drop of mountains are something not to be missed while in Ende. You will never get board while driving along it’s coastline.
Our next stop was the blue stone beach. This striking beach is composed almost entirely of blue, red, green, and yellow stones, a geological marvel. It’s still unclear how these colored stones appeared here but it should have definitely been due to volcanic activity.
We had lunch at a restaurant over looking this colorful beach. To our suprise we noticed the locals wanted to take pictures with us, since they don’t see much people from the Indian Sub-continent. That in deed was definitely an experience to be noted 😀 😉….
Later that evening we reached the Village of Bajawa..
