Udaipur is a wonderful mix of heritage palaces & Havelis, picturesque streets, home to numerous lakes and surrounded by the mighty Aravalli ranges…
The rulers of Udaipur constructed 7 artificial lakes. Due to the numerous lakes that surrounds it and are integrated into the city it is called as the “city of lakes”….. This city was founded by Maharana Udai Singh in 1553. This place acted as the captial of Mewar since then…
We reached Udaipur very early in the morning….Took a local bus until the old town and then a tuktuk to reach the hostel.. I remember during ealier conversations that first Zostel was from here…
We booked Zostel for our stay and rooftop was facing the lake. Went refreshed and reached the Udaipur palace. The photo of founder Maharana Udai singh and his succesors were placed on the walls. The history also tells about the lakes how it was built…
The entire story of Haldighati was shown in pictures dispalyed. Some of the items used during the Battle of Haldhighati was dispalyed there. The battle was fought between the Muhal forces and the Rajput forces led by brave ruler of Mewar Maharana Pratap.
Legendary horse, Chetak played a crucial role in saving Maharana Pratap’s life during the battle, leaping over a ravine with only three legs after it was cut by a elephant force during the battlet. Chetak’s story has become a symbol of courage, loyalty, and the enduring bond between a warrior and his steed.
We walked through small lanes, all of them seems to be old heritage buildings with some temples on the sides. I walked into one of the temples and spoke to the priest, he explained about how the god Hanuman was related to this place.
We walked along the Lake and a friend suggested us to have food in a well known restaurant, the mutton dish – lal gosh which a friend recommend was good, basin gatta was good too.
We visited a few Havelis and then sat on the lake pichola to see the Sunset. It was amazing! Some of the historical buildings that are turned into hotels give beautiful colors during the evenings….
Evenings around Fateh Sagar lake was very lively, you can take a boat ride all day but during sunset it was magical. Also can explore a lot of foods that are on display around the lake
Tried going for one of the traditional dance performance in one of the Havelis but it was over crowded….. So we walked way exploring the town… Felt like being in Malacca which was my fav place in SE Asia.
You can sit on some of the rooftop resto with live music, can see the brilliant light shows that happen on the buildings next to the lake. This is so relaxing and can meet new people around here. The city will shine in beautiful lightings….
Next morning woke up early and went around the old town area. Reached the Jagadesh temple, its dedicated to lord Jaganath. It was built by Maharana Jagath Singh I during the 16th century. Then on went around the small allies had some snacks and chai.
Walked along the river side there are beautifully carved paintings and few restaurants that are on the pathway… Sat on one of those restaurants and had proper breakfast.
